Scotland Hard is an entertaining adventure yarn, complete with magic. The writing is very good, and the adventure well-thought-out. A particularly good feature are the 'laws of magic' that are set out for the reader. A problem with books that include magic is that it is sometimes hard to define its limits. A person with magic still has to have some vulnerabilities, or there is no story. This one is very good indeed.Product details

The second installment from John Booth's spellbinder universe picks up right where we left Tom and Laura at the end of the first book, and immediately propels them into an even greater peril. They are pronounced dead, kidnapped, held captive and sold into slavery - and that is just during the first few chapters. Their enemies are head and shoulders above the group of thugs they had to deal with before. While the young Class A spellbinder and her healer friend remain at the center of the narrative, their pals from the previous book and a host of new characters get nearly as much involvement.
Join them on a mad chase across England and into Scotland, through fields, farms, houses and castles to disable a clever and resourceful villain. The challenges these newly-minted spies have to face include, but are not limited to believing the impossible, double-crossing with reckless abandon and remembering that the voices they hear in their heads may or may not be real.
Take the science- and imagination-powered train into this alternative universe. I, for one, have already bought the ticket and reserved my seat. Won't you join?
